Adaptation of the secretory pathway in cancer through IRE1 signaling

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceThe unfolded protein response (UPR) was originally identified as a signaling network coordinating adaptive and apoptotic responses to accumulation of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

Effects of Ire1 gene on virulence and pathogenicity of Candida albicans

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences
With the extensive utilization of antifungal drugs, the drug resistance of Candida albicans is progressively intensifying, and the effect of empirical treatment for C. albicans infection is not evident.

Cardiopulmonary Bypass-Induced IL-17A Aggravates Caspase-12-Dependent Neuronal Apoptosis Through the Act1-IRE1-JNK1 Pathway

open access: yesBiomolecules
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with significant neurological complications, yet the mechanisms underlying brain injury remain unclear. This study investigated the role of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) in exacerbating CPB-induced neuronal apoptosis

ER Stress Regulates HIV Tat and Alcohol‐Induced NLRP6 Activation in Astrocytes

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2026.
HIV Tat and ethanol synergistically induce ER stress in astrocytes, activating an ER stress‐NLRP6 inflammasome axis that drives caspase‐1 activation and IL‐1β/IL‐18 release. Targeting ER stress or NLRP6 effectively suppresses astrocytic neuroinflammation, identifying a novel therapeutic pathway for alcohol‐exacerbated NeuroHIV.

The IRE1-XBP1s Pathway Impairment Underpins NK Cell Dysfunction in Hodgkin Lymphoma, That Is Partly Restored By PD-1 Blockade

open access: yes, 2019
Background: The frequent loss of Major Histocompatibility Complex I molecule (MHC-I) on Hodgkin/Reed-Sternberg (HRS)-cells renders them susceptible to Natural Killer (NK) cell-mediated lysis in Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL).

PDIA6 regulates insulin secretion by selectively inhibiting the RIDD activity of IRE1

open access: yes, 2016
Protein disulfide isomerase A6 (PDIA6) interacts with protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK) and inositol requiring enzyme (IRE)-1 and inhibits their unfolded protein response signaling.

Chronic XBP1s-mediated activation of the unfolded protein response impairs CD8+ T cell anti-tumor immunity

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
CD8+ T cells play a crucial role in anti-tumor immunity; however, their functionality is compromised by exhaustion driven by chronic antigen exposure, poor tumor microenvironment, and metabolic dysfunction.

Targeting IRE1 endoribonuclease activity alleviates cardiovascular lesions in a murine model of Kawasaki disease vasculitis

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2022
Kawasaki disease (KD) is the leading cause of noncongenital heart disease in children. Studies in mice and humans propound the NLRP3/IL-1β pathway as the principal driver of KD pathophysiology.

Single‐Cell Analysis of Cartilage‐Derived Cells Identifies Diverse Populations and a Cholesterol/ER‐Stress Chondrocyte Subset in Knee OA

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying knee osteoarthritis pathogenesis by analyzing chondrocyte populations and their spatial distribution using single‐cell RNA sequencing (scRNA‐seq). Knee cartilage cells underwent scRNA‐seq.
