HNRNPD promotes radioresistance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma by enhancing stress granule assembly and sequestering GRAMD4 mRNA. This suppresses GRAMD4 translation and inhibits mitochondrial apoptosis. Targeting the integrated stress response with ISRIB restores GRAMD4 expression and sensitizes tumors to radiotherapy, revealing a translational control ...

Role of mitochondrial lipids in guiding fission and fusion [PDF]
Clinically important links have been established between mitochondrial function and cardiac physiology and disease in the context of signaling mechanisms, energy production, and muscle cell development. The proteins and processes that drive mitochondrial fusion and fission are now known to have emergent functions in intracellular calcium homeostasis ...

Hepatocyte BDNF Acts as a Novel Immune Checkpoint to Restrain TLR4‐Mediated Acute Hepatitis
This study identifies hepatocyte‐derived BDNF as an endogenous TLR4 antagonist that alleviates acute hepatitis. BDNF is downregulated in hepatocytes via REST‐mediated transcriptional repression during ALI/ALF. Mechanistically, BDNF binds to TLR4 on macrophages to suppress inflammation.

Development of NASH in Obese Mice is Confounded by Adipose Tissue Increase in Inflammatory NOV and Oxidative Stress [PDF]
Aim. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the consequence of insulin resistance, fatty acid accumulation, oxidative stress, and lipotoxicity. We hypothesize that an increase in the inflammatory adipokine NOV decreases antioxidant Heme Oxygenase 1 (HO- 1)

Identification of Fis1 Interactors in Toxoplasma gondii Reveals a Novel Protein Required for Peripheral Distribution of the Mitochondrion [PDF]
Toxoplasma gondii’s single mitochondrion is very dynamic and undergoes morphological changes throughout the parasite’s life cycle. During parasite division, the mitochondrion elongates, enters the daughter cells just prior to cytokinesis, and undergoes ...

Principles of mitochondrial fusion and fission cycle in neurons [PDF]
Mitochondrial fusion-fission dynamics play a crucial role in many important cell processes. These dynamics control mitochondrial morphology, which in turn influences several important mitochondrial properties including mitochondrial bioenergetics and quality control, and they appear to be affected in several neurodegenerative diseases.

We developed a nanoparticle named OAF, which simultaneously targeted to both the brain and liver via the transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) receptor, promoting lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 1 (LRP1) expression to enhance amyloid‐beta (Aβ) clearance. In AD mice model, OAF significantly reduced Aβ deposition and cognitive impairment, while a mitigating

OPA1 disease alleles causing dominant optic atrophy have defects in cardiolipin-stimulated GTP hydrolysis and membrane tubulation [PDF]
The dynamin-related GTPase OPA1 is mutated in autosomal dominant optic atrophy (DOA) (Kjer type), an inherited neuropathy of the retinal ganglion cells.

Mitochondrial Fusion, Fission, and Biogenesis in Prolonged Critically Ill Patients [PDF]
Critical illness induces swelling, enlargement, and dysfunction of mitochondria, which in liver, but not in muscle, is aggravated by excessive hyperglycemia. We previously demonstrated impaired autophagic clearance of damaged mitochondria in fed prolonged critically ill patients. Impaired fusion/fission-mediated repair and/or renewal through biogenesis
