Mobile Colistin Resistance (mcr) Genes in Cats and Dogs and Their Zoonotic Transmission Risks. [PDF]
Background: Pets, especially cats and dogs, represent a great potential for zoonotic transmission, leading to major health problems. The purpose of this systematic review was to present the latest developments concerning colistin resistance through mcr genes in pets.

A Review of Resistance to Polymyxins and Evolving Mobile Colistin Resistance Gene (mcr) among Pathogens of Clinical Significance. [PDF]
The global rise in antibiotic resistance in bacteria poses a major challenge in treating infectious diseases. Polymyxins (e.g., polymyxin B and colistin) are last-resort antibiotics against resistant Gram-negative bacteria, but the effectiveness of polymyxins is decreasing due to widespread resistance among clinical isolates. The aim of this literature

Identification and characterization of plasmids carrying the mobile colistin resistance gene mcr-1 using optical DNA mapping. [PDF]
OBJECTIVES: Colistin is a last-resort antibiotic, but there has been a rapid increase in colistin resistance, threatening its use in the treatment of infections with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE).

Identification of novel mobile colistin resistance gene mcr-10. [PDF]
Mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes represent an emerging challenge. Here we describe a novel mcr gene, mcr-10, on an IncFIA plasmid of an Enterobacter roggenkampii clinical strain. mcr-10 has the highest nucleotide identity (79.69%) with mcr-9 and encodes MCR-10 with 82.93% amino acids identical to MCR-9.

The plasmid-mediated bacterial colistin-resistant gene, mcr, is of global concern in clinical healthcare. However, there are few reports of surveillance for mcr in Japan. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of colistin resistance by identifying nine mcr genes in extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae and ...

Mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes and recent developments in colistin resistance detection
Abstract The peptide antibiotic colistin has been reserved as a last resort antibiotic treatment option for cases where other antibiotics including carbapenems have failed. Recent emergence of colistin resistance and discovery of mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes, which encode the cell wall modifying phosphoethanolamine transferase ...

Epidemiology and Traits of Mobile Colistin Resistance (mcr) Gene-Bearing Organisms from Horses. [PDF]
Mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes (mcr-1 to mcr-10) threaten the efficacy of colistin (COL), a polymyxin antibiotic that is used as a last-line agent for the treatment of deadly infections caused by multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant bacteria in humans and animals.

Mobile Colistin Resistance Enzyme MCR-3 Facilitates Bacterial Evasion of Host Phagocytosis. [PDF]
AbstractMobile colistin resistance enzyme MCR‐3 is a phosphoethanolamine transferase modifying lipid A in Gram‐negative bacteria. MCR‐3 generally mediates low‐level (≤8 mg L−1) colistin resistance among Enterobacteriaceae, but occasionally confers high‐level (>128 mg L−1) resistance in aeromonads.

An overview of colistin resistance, mobilized colistin resistance genes dissemination, global responses, and the alternatives to colistin: A review [PDF]
Colistin, also known as polymyxin E, is an antimicrobial agent that is effective against a variety of Gram-negative bacilli, especially the Enterobacteriaceae family. Recently, the wide dissemination of colistin-resistance has brought strong attention to the scientific society because of its importance as the last resort for the treatment of carbapenem-
