Human P2Y11 Expression Level Affects Human P2X7 Receptor-Mediated Cell Death
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is known to induce cell death in T lymphocytes at high extracellular concentrations. CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes have a differential response to ATP, which in mice is due to differences in the P2X7 receptor expression levels.

Neurochemical Changes in the Mouse Hippocampus Underlying the Antidepressant Effect of Genetic Deletion of P2X7 Receptors. [PDF]
Recent investigations have revealed that the genetic deletion of P2X7 receptors (P2rx7) results in an antidepressant phenotype in mice. However, the link between the deficiency of P2rx7 and changes in behavior has not yet been explored.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is a major pro-inflammatory cytokine produced in response to toll-like receptor stimulation. TNF-α release is controlled by the activity of TNF-α converting enzyme (TACE) that cut membrane-bound TNF-α to shed its ectodomain ...

Rod and cone pathway signalling is altered in the P2X7 receptor knock out mouse.
The P2X7 receptor (P2X7-R) is expressed in the retina and brain and has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. However, whether it is expressed by neurons and plays a role as a neurotransmitter receptor has been the subject of controversy.

The effect of anions on the human P2X7 receptor [PDF]
P2X7 receptors (P2X7Rs) are nonselective cation channels that are opened by the binding of extracellular ATP and are involved in the modulation of epithelial secretion, inflammation and nociception. Here, we investigated the effect of extracellular anions on channel gating and permeation of human P2X7Rs (hP2X7Rs) expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes ...

Function of the P2X7 receptor in hematopoiesis and leukemogenesis [PDF]
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) accumulates at tissue injury and inflammation sites. The P2X7 receptor is an ATP-gated ion channel known for its cytotoxic activity. However, P2X7 receptors also play important roles in the growth of cancer and the immune regulation.

The P2X7 Receptor-Interleukin-1 Liaison [PDF]
Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) plays a central role in stimulation of innate immune system and inflammation and in several chronic inflammatory diseases. These include rare hereditary conditions, e.g., auto-inflammatory syndromes, as well as common pathologies, such as type II diabetes, gout and atherosclerosis.

Dissecting activation steps in P2X7 receptors
P2X7 receptors are trimeric ion channels activated by extracellular ATP. Upon activation, they trigger cytolysis and apoptosis but also control cell proliferation. To shed more light on channel gating and the underlying function of the individual subunits, receptors of concatenated subunits were built containing a defined number of functional binding ...

P2X7 in Cancer: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutics
P2X7 is a transmembrane receptor expressed in multiple cell types including neurons, dendritic cells, macrophages, monocytes, B and T cells where it can drive a wide range of physiological responses from pain transduction to immune response.

In pregnant women, the lungs, skin and placenta are exposed daily to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). EDCs induce multiple adverse effects, not only on endocrine organs, but also on non-endocrine organs, with the P2X7 cell death receptor being ...
