A Functional Connection between RanGTP, NF-κB and Septic Shock

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2003
RanGTPase is importantly involved in diverse biological functions, such as nuclear transport, spindle formation during mitosis, DNA replication and cell division. This review summarizes yet another new role of Ran - control of the activity of NF-kappaB in host immune responses.

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 921-931, May 2026.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

A centriole- and RanGTP-independent spindle assembly pathway in meiosis I of vertebrate oocytes

open access: yes, 2007
International audienceSpindle formation is essential for stable inheritance of genetic material. Experiments in various systems indicate that Ran GTPase is crucial for meiotic and mitotic spindle assembly.

Molecular bridging of mitotic RanGTP and Aurora B kinase in the maintenance of kinetochore-microtubule attachments

open access: yes, 2012
The multi-faceted RanGTPase has been implicated to be critically involved in nucleocytoplasmic transportation and cell cycle progression. However, the role of mitotic RanGTP in kinetochore-microtubule attachments at metaphase has yet to be described ...

NuSAP Safeguards Centriole Integrity to Mediate CEP57‐CEP152 Torus Recruitment for Proper Engagement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
This study reveals a novel role for the microtubule stabilizer NuSAP at centrioles. NuSAP depletion destabilizes the centriole's tubulin structure, causing premature disengagement, PCM defects, and mis‐localization of the CEP57‐CEP63‐CEP152 complex. By reinforcing centriole architecture, NuSAP enables early CEP57 loading and initiates a newly proposed ...

Sustained ATP‐Concentration Gradients Control Self‐Assembly Under Macroscopic Nonequilibrium Conditions

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 4, April 2026.
Local activity of antagonistic enzymes results in the formation of ATP‐concentration gradients that persist in time as long as chemical fuel is present in the hydrogel. At the macroscopic nonequilibrium steady state the concentration gradients confine the ATP‐templated self‐assembly of surfactants to well‐defined areas of the gel.

Identification of different roles for RanGDP and RanGTP in nuclear protein import. [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 1996
The importin-alpha/beta heterodimer and the GTPase Ran play key roles in nuclear protein import. Importin binds the nuclear localization signal (NLS). Translocation of the resulting import ligand complex through the nuclear pore complex (NPC) requires Ran and is terminated at the nucleoplasmic side by its disassembly.

RanGTP induces an effector gradient of XCTK2 and importin α/β for spindle microtubule cross-linking

open access: yes, 2020
High RanGTP around chromatin is important for governing spindle assembly during meiosis and mitosis by releasing the inhibitory effects of importin alpha/beta Here we examine how the Ran gradient regulates Kinesin-14 function to control spindle ...

The effect of camptothecin on nuclear RanGTP levels in HeLa cells

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2013
Nuclear transport is essential for the survival of all cells. The flow of molecules passing through the nuclear envelope via nuclear pore complexes is mediated by the karyopherin protein family, consisting of importins and exportins to which cargo can bind. The directionality of nuclear transport is regulated by a small GTPase, Ran.

Model illustrating the role of mitotic RanGTP in sustaining stable chromosomal alignment during metaphase.

open access: yes, 2012
In the presence of high mitotic RanGTP, Crm1 is localized to the kinetochores. Mst1 is then recruited as part of the RanGTP-Crm1-Mst1 ternary complex. The presence of Mst1 limits the autophosphorylation of Aurora B kinase and thus stabilizes kinetochore ...
