Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 9, Page 2356-2381, September 2026.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Subcellular Localization of Spermidine Synthase in the Protoplasts of Chinese Cabbage Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1984
Previous studies on the presence of spermidine synthase (EC 2.5.1.16) in the protoplasts of Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis var Pak Choy) leaves had detected a small but significant fraction of the enzyme in a crude chloroplast fraction (Cohen, Balint, Sindhu 1981 Plant Physiol 68: 1150-1155).

Mechanistic Insights Into the Association Between Gut Microbiota Diversity and Atherosclerosis, Acute Coronary Syndrome, and Peripheral Arterial Disease Progression

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 9, September 2026.
Proposed gut‐vascular framework linking microbial ecology to atherosclerotic disease. Diet and related exposures shape dysbiosis or microbial resilience; resulting changes in SCFAs, TMAO, bile acids, and LPS may modulate endothelial function, immune activation, and platelet activity, contributing to atherosclerosis, ACS, and PAD.

Dicyclohexylamine, a potent inhibitor of spermidine synthase in mammalian cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1980
Much effort has been made to develop specific inhibitors of polyamine synthesis which may help in elucidating the role of polyamines in cellular metabolism and in cell proliferation in particular [l-7]. Furthermore, inhibitors of polyamine synthesis may find applications as antiproliferative agents.

Inter‐tissue relationships of gene expression in liver, muscle and adipose tissue of children with end‐stage chronic liver disease

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Volume 83, Issue 3, Page 500-508, September 2026.
Abstract Objectives End‐stage chronic liver disease in children is associated with sarcopenia and aberrant adipose tissue mass. We investigated correlations between liver pathology‐associated gene pathways (fibrosis, inflammation and steatosis) and metabolic genes in muscle and adipose tissue.

Exogenous Melatonin Enhances the Cold Tolerance of Harvested Peach (Prunus persica Batsch) Fruit by Elevating SAMDC and Decreasing ACC Synthase Activities

open access: yesPlants
Exogenous melatonin can alleviate cold injury in post-harvested fruit during fruit refrigeration. The mechanism of melatonin-mediated cold tolerance is increasingly being focused on in studies.

Molecular insights and translational opportunities to enhance heat tolerance in rice

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Heat stress is an increasingly serious threat to rice (Oryza sativa L.) productivity, yet the genetic and regulatory architecture underlying thermotolerance remain poorly resolved and fragmented across studies. Earlier research focused on individual pathways or specific developmental stages; however, recent advances now support an integrated ...

Exogenous Spermidine Promotes γ-Aminobutyric Acid Accumulation and Alleviates the Negative Effect of NaCl Stress in Germinating Soybean (Glycine max L.)

open access: yesFoods, 2020
We investigated the effects of exogenous spermidine (Spd) on the physiological status, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) synthase activity, and gene expressions in germinating soybeans under NaCl stress.

Isolation of spermidine synthase gene (spsA) of Dictyostelium discoideum

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1999
The gene encoding spermidine synthase (spsA) was isolated from Dictyostelium discoideum using the technique of insertional mutagenesis. Northern blot analysis showed that the spsA mRNA is expressed maximally during the vegetative stage and decreases gradually during the 24 h of development.

A Mechanism‐Based Framework for Anti‐Aging Strategies: From Metabolic Regulation to Senotherapy and Stem Cell‐Based Interventions

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 9, September 2026.
The aging of the human body is a complex process driven by multiple contributing factors. Based on their underlying mechanisms, current anti‐aging interventions can be classified into six primary categories. This paper summarizes the most promising anti‐aging strategies within each class. ABSTRACT The global prevalence of aging and age‐related diseases
