Spermidine restricts neonatal inflammation via metabolic shaping of polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Investigation
Newborns exhibit a heightened vulnerability to inflammatory disorders due to their underdeveloped immune system, yet the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

GhSPDS11 up-regulated spermidine synthase responding to alkaline tolerance in cotton

open access: yesPlant Stress
Alkaline stress causes significant adverse effects that slows down the growth of plants and lowers the yield of crops; hence, it is a major challenge in cotton farming.

Abnormal Polyamine Metabolism in Pancreatic Epithelial Cells aggravates chronic pancreatitis-associated preneoplastic lesions

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Background:Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is an independent risk factor for pancreatic cancer (PC). Investigation of the pathological progression of CP may help to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the progression of preneoplastic lesions in CP.Methods ...

Fruit Architecture in Polyamine-Rich Tomato Germplasm Is Determined via a Medley of Cell Cycle, Cell Expansion, and Fruit Shape Genes

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Shape and size are important features of fruits. Studies using tomatoes expressing yeast Spermidine Synthase under either a constitutive or a fruit-ripening promoter showed obovoid fruit phenotype compared to spherical fruit in controls, suggesting that ...

Loss-of-function variant in spermidine/spermine N1-acetyl transferase like 1 (SATL1) gene as an underlying cause of autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesScientific Reports
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complicated, lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder affecting verbal and non-verbal communication and social interactions. ASD signs and symptoms appear early in development before the age of 3 years.

The Aspergillus flavus Spermidine Synthase (spds) Gene, Is Required for Normal Development, Aflatoxin Production, and Pathogenesis During Infection of Maize Kernels

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Aspergillus flavus is a soil-borne saprophyte and an opportunistic pathogen of both humans and plants. This fungus not only causes disease in important food and feed crops such as maize, peanut, cottonseed, and tree nuts but also produces the toxic and ...

trans-4-Methylcyclohexylamine, a potent new inhibitor of spermidine synthase.

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1988
Trans-4-methylcyclohexylamine was found to inhibit pig spermidine synthase potently in assay conditions containing 50 μM of decarboxylated S-adenosylmethionine. It showed 50% inhibition at 1.7 μM compared to 8.1 μM for cyclohexylamine, and 2.5 μM for S-adenosyl-1, 8-diamino-3-thiooctane, known as the most potent inhibitor.

Reduction of spermine synthase enhances autophagy to suppress Tau accumulation

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Precise polyamine metabolism regulation is vital for cells and organisms. Mutations in spermine synthase (SMS) cause Snyder–Robinson intellectual disability syndrome (SRS), characterized by significant spermidine accumulation and autophagy blockage in ...
