Regulation of polyamine interconversion enzymes affects α-Synuclein levels and toxicity in a Drosophila model of Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by α-synuclein accumulation and aggregation, leading to disrupted cellular homeostasis, impaired mitochondrial function, and neuroinflammation, ultimately causing neuronal death ...

Investigation of Polyamine Metabolism and Homeostasis in Pancreatic Cancers

open access: yesMedical Sciences, 2017
Pancreatic cancers are currently the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death and new therapies are desperately needed. The most common pancreatic cancer is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

A Dual‐Phase Exosomal Nanotherapy Enhances Continual Efferocytosis by Coordinating Checkpoint Inhibition and Metabolic Reprogramming in Atherosclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 48, 28 August 2026.
Here we developed Am@SExo, a dual‐functional engineered exosome that coordinates CD47–SIRPα checkpoint blockade with Arg1 mRNA–mediated metabolic reprogramming. Surface SIRPα promotes recognition of apoptotic cells and plaque targeting, while Arg1 expression enhances arginine–ornithine metabolism, Rac1 activation, and actin remodeling in macrophages ...

Effects of salt and osmotic stresses on free polyamine content and expression of polyamine biosynthetic genes in Vitis vinifera

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2011
Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) seedlings grown in vitro were treated with either 200 mM NaCl or 350 mM mannitol for 7 d. Both salinity and osmotic stress caused significant increase in electrolyte leakage. From the three commonly occurring free polyamines (PA)

The gut microbiome organ

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2026.
The gut microbiome can be conceptualized as a distributed organ‐like functional system with spatially structured organization, broad biochemical capacity, and continuous bidirectional communication with the host. By transforming dietary, host‐derived, and environmental substrates into bioactive metabolites with endocrine‐like, immunomodulatory, and ...

Spermidine biosynthesis by hypervirulent Francisella tularensis promotes fitness and salvages adenine

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology
Francisella tularensis is a highly infectious Tier 1 select agent that causes tularemia, a potentially fatal disease. F. tularensis subspecies tularensis (type A), including subtypes A.I and A.II, and subspecies holarctica (type B) differ considerably in

Control of Spermidine and Spermine Levels in Rat Tissues by trans-4-Methylcyclohexylamine, a Spermidine-Synthase Inhibitor

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2005
In rat tissues, a decrease in spermidine, accompanied by an increase in spermine was induced by the oral administration (once daily for either 1 week or 1 month) of trans-4-methylcyclohexylamine (4MCHA), a spermidine synthase inhibitor. This is similar to the changes observed in polyamine content when cell growth is arrested.

The Dual Role of the Gut Microbiota in Cancer Chemoresistance

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, August 2026.
Comparison between Microbiota and Cancer therapy. ABSTRACT Chemoresistance is one of the primary reasons that cancer chemotherapy fails to deliver successful treatment outcomes and contributes to poor overall survival rates for patients with cancer. New research has begun to shed light on the effects of the gut microbiome (GM).

Spermidine enhances the heat tolerance of Ganoderma lucidum by promoting mitochondrial respiration driven by fatty acid β-oxidation

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
High temperature is an unavoidable environmental stress that generally exerts detrimental effects on organisms and has widespread effects on metabolism.
