The Kinetic Materialism of ‘Close Capitalism’: Exploiting and Shaping Health and Wellbeing

open access: yesGeography Compass, Volume 20, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper considers health geography's past engagements with capitalism and proposes a basis for future ones. Looking back, it notes a number of implicit, indirect and partial engagements in five core research pillars of the subdiscipline. Looking forward, it then makes a case for a more explicit, direct and full engagement with capitalism ...

Impacts of predator odours and conspecific disturbance cues on minnow thermal tolerance

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 109, Issue 3, Page 1786-1799, September 2026.
Abstract Warming waters can affect fish community dynamics, potentially exacerbating predator–prey asymmetries in behavioural and physiological metrics of thermal tolerance. Further, differing responses of prey fish species to concurrent predation risk and warming highlight the need to understand these impacts in various contexts, especially with at ...

Effectiveness of Telerehabilitation in Individuals With Myofascial Pain and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 53, Issue 9, Page 1733-1745, September 2026.
This randomized controlled trial compared a supervised telerehabilitation program with a home‐based exercise program in individuals with myofascial temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Fifty participants completed a six‐week multicomponent exercise program including jaw mobility, cervical exercises, posture training, breathing‐relaxation, and self‐massage

Urban Animal Density: Red Foxes and Emergent Sociality in the City

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Volume 51, Issue 3, September 2026.
Short Abstract Density is considered a foundational quality of urban life. Geographical investigations of density remain anthropocentric, despite the fact that animals also live at high density in cities. Through a collaborative ethological‐ethnographic study of a group of foxes in London, this paper asks how urban animal density is produced ...

Greater muscle mass does not affect peripheral hypercapnic chemosensitivity during exercise in healthy adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 17, September 2026.
Abstract Peripheral hypercapnic chemosensitivity (PHC) is the ventilatory response to a brief rise in arterial carbon dioxide tension. PHC is known to increase at the onset of exercise, with no further increases with progressive exercise intensity. The mechanisms for this augmentation remain unclear but may involve central command.
