A microfluidic model of the glioblastoma (GBM) margin was developed to mimic patient‐specific blood‐brain tumor barrier (BBTB) function and drug response. The platform revealed inter‐patient variability in barrier integrity and drug sensitivity, offering a tool for personalized therapy evaluation in GBM.

P-glycoprotein (ABCB1) and oxidative stress: Focus on Alzheimer's disease [PDF]
ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, in particular P-glycoprotein (encoded by ABCB1), are important and selective elements of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and they actively contribute to brain homeostasis.

Association of a polymorphism of ABCB1 with obesity in Japanese individuals
The aim of the present study was to identify gene polymorphisms that confer susceptibility to obesity. A total of 5448 unrelated Japanese individuals from two independent populations were examined: subject panel A comprised 4252 individuals who visited participating hospitals; subject panel B comprised 1196 community-dwelling elderly individuals.

Background and Purpose Adenosine as a signalling molecule modifies blood–brain barrier (BBB) tightness in pathological conditions. Our aim was to investigate the direct and polarized effects of adenosine on the BBB using co‐culture and in vivo models. Experimental Approach The expression of adenosine receptors was measured by qRT‐PCR.

ABCA1/ABCB1 Ratio Determines Chemo- and Immune-Sensitivity in Human Osteosarcoma
The ATP Binding Cassette transporter B1 (ABCB1) induces chemoresistance in osteosarcoma, because it effluxes doxorubicin, reducing the intracellular accumulation, toxicity, and immunogenic cell death induced by the drug.

Abstract Background and Purpose Genomic profiling of patients for genetic variants that modify the effect of specific medications has many benefits, including the possibility of avoiding toxicities and ensuring an adequate effect of the medication. Our intention was to develop a comprehensive, high‐quality pharmacogenetic test panel for clinical use ...
