CD137L-stimulated dendritic cells are more potent than conventional dendritic cells at eliciting cytotoxic T-cell responses [PDF]

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2013
Dendritic cells (DCs) are highly potent initiators of adaptive immune responses and, as such, represent promising tools for immunotherapeutic applications. Despite their potential, the current efficacy of DC-based immunotherapies is poor. CD137 ligand (CD137L) signaling has been used to derive a novel type of DCs from human peripheral blood monocytes ...

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells cross-prime naive CD8 T cells by transferring antigen to conventional dendritic cells through exosomes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2020
Significance Whether and how pDCs cross-prime CD8 T cells in vivo remain controversial despite extensive studies. Using a vaccine model where antigens were only delivered to pDCs, this report demonstrated that pDCs induced cross-priming and durable CD8 T cell immunity in vivo.

First Genomic Analysis of Dendritic Cells from Lung and Draining Lymph Nodes in Murine Asthma

open access: yesInternational Journal of Genomics, 2015
Asthma is the consequence of allergic inflammation in the lung compartments and lung-draining lymph nodes. Dendritic cells initiate and promote T cell response and drive it to immunity or allergy.

Human pDCs Are Superior to cDC2s in Attracting Cytolytic Lymphocytes in Melanoma Patients Receiving DC Vaccination

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and type 2 conventional dendritic cells (cDC2s) are currently under evaluation for use in cancer vaccines. Although both DC subsets can activate adaptive and innate lymphocytes, their capacity to recruit such ...

Type I conventional dendritic cells facilitate immunotherapy in pancreatic cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesScience
Inflammation and tissue damage associated with pancreatitis can precede or occur concurrently with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). We demonstrate that in PDAC coupled with pancreatitis (ptPDAC), antigen-presenting type I conventional dendritic cells (cDC1s) are specifically activated.

Constitutive Flt3 signaling impacts conventional dendritic cell function

open access: yesImmunology & Cell Biology
AbstractThe development of dendritic cells (DCs) depends on signaling via the FMS‐like tyrosine kinase 3 (Flt3) receptor. How Flt3 signaling impacts terminally differentiated DC function is unknown. This is important given the increasing interest in exploiting Flt3 for vaccination and tumor immunotherapy.

The Role of Tolerogenic Dendritic Cell Therapy in Autoimmune Diseases

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2018
Dendritic cells (DCs) are special antigen-presenting cells that are important for activation of immune response and tolerance. Dendritic cells have been divided in two subtypes of conventional and plasmacytoid dendritic cells.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fungal immunization potentiates CD4+ T cell-independent cDC2 responses for cross-presentation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
The incidence rates of fungal infections are increasing, especially in immunocompromised individuals without an FDA-approved vaccine. Accumulating evidence suggests that T cells are instrumental in providing fungal immunity.
