ULBP6/RAET1L is an additional human NKG2D ligand [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2009
AbstractTo date five ULBP/RAET (UL16‐binding protein, also known as retinoic acid early transcript) genes, encoded on human chromosome 6q24.2‐q25.3, have been shown to encode ligands of the activating immunoreceptor NKG2D. Here, we show that a sixth gene, ULBP6/RAET1L, is a polymorphic locus that expresses a functional transcript.

Human NKG2D-ligands: cell biology strategies to ensure immune recognition

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2012
Immune recognition mediated by the activating receptor NKG2D plays an important role for the elimination of stressed cells, including tumours and virus-infected cells.

Functional Repurposing of Magnetic Nanoparticle‐Assisted Hyperthermia for Immune Cell Labelling and Tracking

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
We propose mild‐MHT protocol for the quick internalization of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) by immune cells. The heat induced by MNPs under alternating magnetic field stimulate MNPs diffusion and cell membrane invagination, accelerating the cellular internalization of MNPs. ABSTRACT Immune cell therapies show promise in hematologic malignancies and are

Discovery of a new selective inhibitor of A Disintegrin And Metalloprotease 10 (ADAM-10) able to reduce the shedding of NKG2D ligands in Hodgkin's lymphoma cell models.

open access: yesEuropean journal of medicinal chemistry, 2016
Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is the most common malignant lymphoma in young adults in the western world. This disease is characterized by an overexpression of ADAM-10 with increased release of NKG2D ligands, involved in an impaired immune response against ...

Therapeutic potential of natural products in cancer immunotherapy: Advances and challenges

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
This review systematically outlines the mechanisms underlying tumour immunotherapy resistance and elucidates the role of natural products in enhancing therapeutic efficacy as immunomodulatory adjuvants. Abstract Immunotherapy has emerged as a clinically pivotal approach in cancer treatment, but its application remains limited to a small subset of ...

Sodium valproate enhances efficacy of NKG2D CAR-T cells against glioblastoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies have shown promise in glioblastoma clinical studies, but responses remain inconsistent due to heterogeneous tumor antigen expression and immune evasion post-treatment. NKG2D CAR-T cells have demonstrated

ADAM17 and its proteolytic targets in disease pathogenesis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
ADAM17 as a multifunctional sheddase with contrasting roles across inflammatory, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neoplastic diseases. Through regulated activation by iRhom, iTAP/FRMD8, and tetraspanins, ADAM17 cleaves diverse membrane ligands and receptors, thereby promoting inflammation, fibrosis, obesity, insulin resistance, and tumor progression ...

Agonistic anti-NKG2D antibody structure reveals unique stoichiometry and epitope compared to natural ligands

open access: yesmAbs
Natural killer (NK) cells are effector cells of the innate immune system that distinguish between healthy and abnormal cells through activating and inhibitory receptor signaling.

Epigenetic regulation of NKG2D ligands is involved in exacerbated atherosclerosis development in Sirt6 heterozygous mice

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Sirt6 is a member of the class III histone deacetylase family which is associated with aging and longevity. Sirt6 deficient mice show an aging-like phenotype, while male transgenic mice of Sirt6 show increased longevity.
