The Deubiquitylase OTUB1 Mediates Ferroptosis via Stabilization of SLC7A11 [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Research, 2019
Abstract Although cell-cycle arrest, senescence, and apoptosis are established mechanisms of tumor suppression, accumulating evidence reveals that ferroptosis, an iron-dependent, nonapoptotic form of cell death, represents a new regulatory pathway in suppressing tumor development.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

TP53 drives neuronal ferroptosis by promoting KLHL4-mediated SLC7A11 ubiquitination after spinal cord injury

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Ferroptosis constitutes a pivotal pathological event following spinal cord injury and presents substantial challenges to the restoration of neurological function.

Implication of the glutamate-cystine antiporter xCT in schizophrenia cases linked to impaired GSH synthesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
xCT is the specific chain of the cystine/glutamate antiporter, which is widely reported to support anti-oxidant defenses in vivo. xCT is therefore at the crossroads between two processes that are involved in schizophrenia: oxidative stress and ...

The SLC7A11: sperm mitochondrial function and non-canonical glutamate metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 2020
Abstract Spermatozoa are redox-regulated cells, and stallion spermatozoa, in particular, present an intense mitochondrial activity in which large amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced. To maintain the redox potential under physiological conditions, sophisticated mechanisms ought to be present, particularly in the ...

Zinc Exposure Causes Disulfidptosis to Induce Miscarriage by Up‐Regulating GATA1/METTL1/SLC7A11 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zn exposure up‐regulates GATA1, promoting GATA1‐mediated METTL1 and SLC7A11 transcription. It also enhances METTL1‐mediated m7G modification on SLC7A11 mRNA, increasing SLC7A11 mRNA stability. Ultimately, Zn exposure up‐regulates SLC7A11 at both transcriptional and post‐transcriptional levels, causing disulfidptosis. Knockdown of murine Slc7a11, Gata1,

Correlations of P53, SLC7A11, CD3+ T cells, and CD8+ T cells with pathological features and prognosis in endometrial carcinoma: Insights from an Asian cohort [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry
Background: This study investigates the clinical significance of Solute Carrier Family 7 Member 11 (SLC7A11), Tumor Protein p53 (p53), c D3+ T cells, and CD8+ T cells in endometrial carcinoma (EC). By evaluating their expression patterns and correlations

SLC7A11 expression level dictates differential responses to oxidative stress in cancer cells

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The cystine transporter solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11; also called xCT) protects cancer cells from oxidative stress and is overexpressed in many cancers. Here we report a surprising finding that, whereas moderate overexpression of SLC7A11 is

Increased Expression of System x_c^- in Glioblastoma Confers an Altered Metabolic State and Temozolomide Resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most aggressive malignant primary brain tumor in adults. Several studies have shown that glioma cells upregulate the expression of xCT (SLC7A11), the catalytic subunit of system x_c^-, a transporter involved in cysteine ...

Differential expression of SLC7A11 in colorectal cancer.

open access: yes, 2023
Cancer is a leading cause of death and colorectal cancer is among the most lethal cancers (1, 2). We mined published microarray datasets (3, 4) to determine in an unbiased fashion and at the level of the transcriptome genes most differentially expressed in the primary tumors of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). We found significant differential
