Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...

Planning and Control for Autonomous Landing of Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles With Disturbances

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
This paper proposes a trajectory planning method for autonomous landing and designs a disturbance‐compensated nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) for environments under wind disturbances. An efficient trajectory planning method based on MINCO is proposed, which transforms the trajectory planning problem into an optimization problem.

Bespoke Precision Agriculture for Small‐Scale Farming in Sub‐Saharan Africa: Defining Potential Benefits and Pathways

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Precision agriculture (PA) holds enormous potential for smallholder farmers in sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA), where agriculture remains central to economic development, employing more than half of the adult population and contributing significantly to GDP. However, adoption rates remain low.
